Outside mathematics

I have been practicing Kendo (剣道, a traditional Japanese martial art, meaning “the way of the sword”) for over 15 years and am currently third dan (三段). I am a member of the All United States Kendo Federation (AUSKF). I am also a certified referee for the International Kendo Federation (FIK).

My sensei (instructor) is Fumihide Itokazu, a member of Team USA for the 12th and 13th World Kendo Championships. Here is a video from the 13th WKC, when USA defeated Japan in the semifinal (and unfortunately lost to Korea in the final).
